Australia has waited over a year, but the wait is finally over - Fat Brain Toys Air Toobz, the Ultimate STEM Toy is landing in October!
This Air-Powered STEM Building Toy was a 2023 Toy of the Year Finalist, and we predict it will be the must-have gift for Christmas! We've already had to boost our pre-order numbers to keep up with the soaring demand.
So what is all the hype about and who invented it?
Brad Owen, a software engineer and entrepreneur was inspired by a similar concept he had seen at a children's museum locally in Cleveland, Ohio. They exist in a lot of children's museums worldwide and are always an incredibly popular exhibit. His kids loved it and they were always going there to play and and then covid hit... so he decided to create a mini one at home for his kids using tubes from a hamster cage and a fan system from a vacuum.
Seven months later, he had a prototype built with the help of engineering friends and gave it to his kids at Christmas. And the rest as they say is history!
After lots of interest in the toy, he ended up working with Fat Brain Toys to license and develop the toy as he had had always been a long time fan of their toys.
What do you get and how does it work?
The original pack has 12 tubes - 6 are transparent, 6 are orange, and you get 1 T-tube, a silicone funnel, 12 connectors and most importantly 20 coloured foam balls and a fan unit.
The fan unit can be set to low or high speed, so you can set up your tubes and connectors and allow the foam balls to shoot through the tubes and into the air. Or you can adjust the fan speed and watch the balls move more slowly through the tubes.
What is awesome about this toy, is the endless experimentation and hands-on learning! They can try to make the balls hover in mid-air or just go around in an endless loop.
They've also introduced an expansion pack to elevate the fun, adding 10 extra balls, 6 tubes, 6 corners, and 12 connectors for even more air-powered play!
